Pigs have potentially to transmit zoonotic gastrointestinal parasite disease both caused by protozoa and worm. The aim of this study was to identify gastrointestinal parasites that were potentially zoonotic in pigs in the province of Bali. A total of 100 fresh feces samples was collected from several pig farms in Bali, from Badung and Tabanan districts, each consisted of 50 samples. Pig feces samples were examined for the presence of eggs worms, cysts and oocysts for protozoa based on the morphology and size. Identification for protozoa and worms used native, sedimentation and sucrose flotation methods. Parameters measured were sex, feed and cage management. The result showed that the characteristic parameters for pigs in both district were generally female. Cage management for raising pigs mostly used group cage. Feed that provided in both district mostly used bran and concentrate. All of 100 pig feces samples that examined positive for parasites. There were 8 types of gastrointestinal parasites that have been identified. Four types of protozoa found were Entamoeba sp. (99%), Balantidium sp. (79%), Eimeria sp. (78%), Blastocystis sp. (69%) and four types of worms were Ascaris sp. (20%), Trichuris sp. (20%), Strongyloides sp. (19%), and Oesophagostomum sp. (8%). All pigs were infected with two or more parasites. The prevalence of parasitic gastrointestinal infections was different for each district, six genera (Entamoeba sp., Balantidium sp., Blastocystis sp., Eimeria sp., Oesophagostomum sp. and Trichuris sp.) were higher found in Tabanan district and the two genera (Ascaris sp. and Strongyloides sp.) were higher in Badung district. Oesophagostomum sp. was only found to infect pigs in Tabanan district. The conclusion is gastrointestinal parasites that found in pigs at Badung and Tabanan district Bali Province mostly have zoonotic potential.

Surabaya slaughterhouse provides pork cuts from several swine farms. Prior to slaughter, the swine were placed in a temporary pen which allows the transmission of gastrointestinal protozoa to fellow swine and to humans at the Surabaya slaughterhouse. This research was conducted to identify gastrointestinal protozoa of swine that slaughtered in Surabaya slaughterhouse. Total of 100 fecal samples was observed using native method, sedimentation method, Fulleborne floating method and Ziehl neelsen method. Based on the results, there were 47 samples positive. The protozoa found included Balantidium sp. with 46% prevalence, Eimeria sp. / Isospora sp. with 32% prevalence, Entamoeba sp. with 24% prevalence, and Blastocystis sp.with 12% prevalence.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi pedagang daging babi di Pasar Badung terhadap pemilihan tempat pemotongan dan menelusuri alasan dilakukannya pemotongan babi di rumah sendiri. Seluruh pedagang daging babi di Pasar Badung yaitu sebanyak 38 pedagang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mewawancarai pedagang daging babi yang terdapat di Pasar Badung dengan menggunakan panduan kuesioner. Data yang diperoleh disajikan dan dianalisa secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian persepsi pedagang daging babi terhadap tempat pemotongan babi di Pasar Badung diketahui bahwa dari 38 pedagang daging babi terdapat 95% pedagang daging babi yang melaksanakan pemotongan babi di RPH dan sebanyak 5% pedagang yang melaksanakan pemotongan di luar RPH. Biaya pemotongan di RPH Pesanggaran sebesar Rp 47.500/ ekor dan pedagang daging babi yang melaksanakan pemotongan di luar RPH dikenai biaya pemotongan sebesar Rp 100.000/ekor. Lama proses pemotongan setiap ekor babi di RPH Pesanggaran ± 2 jam, dan lama proses pemotongan di luar RPH yaitu mencapai 4 jam. Lokasi RPH dengan rumah pedagang bervariasi yaitu 4-20 km. Namun pedagang yang memilih memotong di luar RPH dikarenakan jarak tempat tinggalnya yang jauh dengan lokasi RPH. Mereka memahami proses pengolahan limbah RPH, serta mampu menyatakan bahwa pelaksanaan pemotongan babi di RPH bertujuan agar produk daging babi yang mereka jual kualitasnya baik dan sudah sesuai dengan peraturan yang berlaku sehingga aman untuk dikonsumsi konsumen nantinya. Sayangnya pengetahuan dan wawasan yang dimiliki oleh pedagang daging babi tentang RPH, penyakit zoonosis dan meatborne disease masih kurang. Jarak antara lokasi pedagang dengan RPH menjadi alasan yang paling mendasari pedagang memilih memotong ternak nya di rumah. Pengetahuan dan wawasan pedagang daging babi yang kurang tentu akan mempengaruhi kualitas daging yang mereka jual nantinya, sebaiknya dilakukan sosialisasi tentang RPH, penyakit zoonosis dan meatborne disease sehingga para pedagang daging babi nantinya dapat melaksanakan pemotongan yang benar dan daging yang mereka jual kualitasnya terjamin dan sangat layak untuk di konsumsi. Selain itu di harapkan juga agar setiap kabupaten/kota harus mempunyai RPH yang memenuhi persyaratan teknis yang ditetapkan oleh kementerian pertanian.
