Abstract: Psoriasis is an independent risk factor for subclinical atherosclerosis. This cardiovascular impairment is influenced mainly by disease severity, serum TG levels and serum leptin levels.

“…These findings were in agreement with previous results of Enany et al (24), Cerman et al (25) and Hamminga et al (26) who suggested that leptin may serve a role of marker in psoriasis. Thus we may infer that increased serum leptin in obese patients may be correlated to events of metabolic dysfunction.…”

“…41 High-resolution, B-mode ultrasonographic measurement of carotid IMT is considered as an easy method of detecting subclinical atherosclerosis. 42,43 The range for carotid IMT in adults is about 0.25 to 1.5 mm and values exceeding 1 mm are commonly regarded as abnormal. 17 However, stratification according to age and site of measurement can give more precise values as it was made by Lim et al 20 who determined IMT at the common carotid artery as well as at the bifurcation and defined acceptable upper limits in the different age groups.…”

“…This was in accordance with several studies. [7,[20][21][22][23] Wang et al found higher serum leptin levels in women and men with psoriasis compared to control group. [7] In Japanese population higher plasma leptin levels have been observed in patients suffering from psoriasis.…”

“…MIMT of the CCA was also positively correlated with this biomarker in the study. [21] In another study conducted by Asha et al association between carotid intima thickness and leptin and apolipoprotein-B / apolipoprotein-A revealed a positive correlation among them in psoriasis patients. [41] Kalkan et al also observed a relationship between psoriasis and cardiovascular risk and reported that there was existence of a parallel pathogenic setting underlying the two conditions.…”
