Cardiac Valve Disease: Spectrum of Findings on Cardiac 64-MDCT

Abstract: Cardiac MDCT provides an excellent imaging method for illustrating cardiac valve disease. Radiologists should be aware of the various appearances of the common and most important cardiac valve diseases on cardiac MDCT.

“…b Rheumatic mitral stenosis. Transverse CT from an ECG-gated study showing gross bi-atrial dilatation, diffusely thickened mitral valve leaflets, an annuloplasty ring and a mid-septal ASD (arrow) CT features are thickening and calcification of the valve leaflets with left atrial enlargement [67]. An occasional finding in patients with severe mitral stenosis and high left atrial pressure is an accompanying mid-septal ASD.…”

“…However, MDCT also has limitations in demonstrating hemodynamic characteristics such as transvalvular pressure gradient or presence of regurgitation [29], and sometimes produces motion artifacts especially in patients with higher heart rates or arrhythmia. There are also concerns over radiation dose [9].…”

“…Currently, electrocardiographic (ECG)-gated cardiac multi-detector row computed tomography (MDCT) is widely used for the evaluation of aortic valvular disease as it provides reproducible information with high spatial resolution and is considered to be superior to echocardiograms in patients with a poor acoustic window or dense calcified aortic valves [8,9]. However, MDCT diagnostic imaging criteria of BAVs have not yet been established in the setting of patients needing aortic valve replacement due to significant valvular dysfunction.…”

“…A noninvazív CCTA legfontosabb indikációja − ma gas negatív prediktív értékének köszönhetően − a koronáriabetegség kizárása. A CCTA-vizsgálat az ICA-hoz képest többletinformáci-ót nyújt a nonobstruktív koronáriaplakkok jelenléte, a plakk-komponensek megoszlása, valamint egyéb, nem koronáriás kardiális képletek tekintetében (4)(5)(6)(7)(8) Az értékelést végző orvos feladata, hogy azonosítsa a koszorúerek lefutása men t én az összes kalcifi kált léziót, és azokat a megfelelő koszorúérhez rendelje. A kalcifi káció mértékét pontrendszerek segítségével jellemezzük.…”
