Cardiac disorders in dogs infected with Babesia canis

Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess cardiac disorders in dogs infected with B. canis. The study included 50 dogs with babesiosis and 20 healthy control animals. All the animals had haematological tests, ECG, echocardiography and serum troponin I and CK-MB levels checked. The haematology in the group of dogs with babesiosis confirmed thrombocytopaenia in 100% of dogs, decreased haematocrit in 52% and anaemia in 46%. The most common abnormalities in ECG and echocardiography in dogs infected with protozoa include… Show more

“…This study corroborates the recent study that reported that the inhibition of NF‐κB signaling pathway ameliorated nephropathy . High CTnI and creatine kinase myocardial band (CK‐MB) in the have been shown to be indicators of poor prognosis in the assessment of cardiac disorders . We, therefore, speculated the elevated levels of CTnI and CK‐MB was an indication of cardiac damage arising from renal complication of NaF toxicity.…”

“…75,76 High CTnI and creatine kinase myocardial band (CK-MB) in the have been shown to be indicators of poor prognosis in the assessment of cardiac disorders. 77,78 We, therefore, speculated the elevated levels of CTnI and CK-MB was an indication of cardiac damage arising from renal complication of NaF toxicity. This may also corroborate the observed higher expressions of Kim-1 which has been reported as risk factor for cardiomyopathy such as cardiomyopathies and cardiovascular mortality.…”

“…За допомогою електрокардіографії (ЕКГ) та ехокардіографії у інвазованих собак встановлено синусову тахікардію (14%) і збільшення серця (10%). Проте отримані науковцями результати хоч і вказують на те, що серцеві зміни поширені за бабезіозу у собак, проте вони є неспецифічними і мають не суттєве клінічне значення [10].…”

“…One of the most common diseases in dogs is babesiosis. Areas of infection are found in the tropics (Jain et al, 2017;Ybañez et al, 2018), Mediterranean countries (Salem & Farag, 2014), Eastern (Davitkov et al, 2015;Bartnicki et al, 2017) and Western Europe (Eichenberger et al, 2016), Asia (Liu et al, 2016;Wang et al, 2018) and America (Di Cicco et al, 2012;Rojas et al, 2014). The analysis of recent publiccations proves that babesiosis in dogs occurs in almost all regions of Ukraine (in 18 of 24).…”
