Carcinoma Originating from Aberrant Breast Tissue. A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract: Carcinoma arising from ectopic breast tissue, either supernumerary breast or aberrant breast tissue, is extremely rare. Carcinoma occurs more frequently in the ectopic breast tissue of the axilla than in extra-axillary ectopic breast tissue. Here we report a case of an invasive lobular carcinoma arising from extra-axillary ectopic breast tissue and presenting as a subcutaneous nodule.

“…La mastectomie complémentaire est controversée. La technique du ganglion sentinelle rapportée dans cinq publications a révélé la possibilité de drainage du tissu mammaire ectopique dans les ganglions inguinaux ou axillaires controlatéraux [6][7][8][9][10]. Cette technique sur cancer du sein ectopique axillaire pourrait être réalisée sous réserve d'une injection périaréolaire.…”

“…The most frequent histological type of this lesion is invasive ductal carcinoma (worldwide incidence, 72%) (16,17). In the majority of studies, treatment regimens for accessory breast carcinoma follow the guidelines for breast cancer treatment (9,10,11). Similar to breast cancer, accessory breast cancer is also surgically treated and supplemented with preoperative or postoperative chemotherapy (18).…”

“…The principal malignancy identified in accessory breast tissue, as with normal breasts, is invasive ductal carcinoma (79%). In the majority of previously documented cases, treatment regimens for accessory breast carcinoma follow the guidelines for breast cancer (9)(10)(11). Early diagnosis of this carcinoma is difficult due to its rarity and a general lack of awareness among physicians and patients (9,10,12).…”
