Carbon Organic Content under Organic and Conventional Paddy Field and its Effect on Biological Activities (A Case Study in Pati Regency, Indonesia)

Abstract: The low organic matter content of paddy soils impacts the declining quality of land. Without the efforts to enrich the soil organic matter (SOM) content, the productivity of paddy fields will decrease or the need for inorganic fertilizers will increase to reach the level of yield. The present research aims to determine the effect of differences in organic and conventional paddy fields management practices on soil organic carbon (SOC) content and biological activities. The research was conducted from July to Se… Show more

“…High organic matter content not only provides nitrogen requirements for plants but also increases the water retention capacity of the soil and creates a favorable physical, chemical, and biological environment [27]. Soil organic matter has a very influential effect on the activity and diversity of microorganisms [28][29][30] involved in the degradation process of soil pollutants [31].…”

“…The carbon absorption in grain and straw of 4.614 ton ha -1 reduces the amount of carbon dioxide from the air, lowering the concentration of greenhouse gases in the air. The straw returning to the field improves soil fertility and health (Supriyadi et al, 2020;, as well as the sustainability of the agricultural system (Viandari et al, 2022). Rice farming in the first growing season and the rainy season has been carried out by farmers across generation and is feasible to develop.…”
