Carbon Nano‐onions for Imaging the Life Cycle of Drosophila Melanogaster

Abstract: Real-time X-ray or magnetic resonance imaging are known methods used for biomedical diagnosis. By the oral administration of barium meal, X-ray imaging can be extended for use in soft tissue imaging. The oral ingestion of a fluorescent probe is a new approach to imaging a living species. Here, water-soluble carbon nano-onions are introduced as a nontoxic, fluorescent reagent enabling Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) to be imaged alive. It is demonstrated that these water-soluble carbon nano-onions, synthe… Show more

“…To do so we have used a new hybrid system made up with nanocarbon onions-polyoxometalate, CNO/Pr-W Ln-POM, composite and used it in detecting trace amount of these toxic dyes used in food, beverages, syrup and medicines. The unique spectral, optical and electronic properties of carbon nano-onion (CNO) (Ghosh et al 2011) and newly synthesized polyoxometalate (POM) have great potential in medicinal and industrial research with many applications in modern science and technology.…”

“…Finally, at the end these regular structures may be driven to more stable network structure with the creation of extended dead-end network structure losing normal characteristics of DNA. As wsCNO is shown to be dose-dependent non-toxic (Ghosh et al 2011;Saxena et al 2013Saxena et al , 2014 it will be challenging to explore the interaction of wsCNO with rouged DNA to control their unwanted proliferation in certain cell growth and preventing such viral DNA replication in well-known diseases.…”
