Scale formation inside oil and gas pipelines is always one of the main threats to the efficiency of equipment and their depreciation. In this study, an artificial intelligence method method is presented to provide the flow regime and volume percentage of a two-phase flow while considering the presence of scale inside the test pipe. In this non-invasive method, a dual-energy source of barium-133 and cesium-137 isotopes is irradiated, and the photons are absorbed by a detector as they pass through the test pipe on the other side of the pipe. The Monte Carlo N Particle Code (MCNP) simulates the structure and frequency features, such as the amplitudes of the first, second, third, and fourth dominant frequencies, which are extracted from the data recorded by the detector. These features use radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) inputs, where two neural networks are also trained to accurately determine the volume percentage and correctly classify all flow patterns, independent of scale thickness in the pipe. The advantage of the proposed system in this study compared to the conventional systems is that it has a better measuring precision as well as a simpler structure (using one detector instead of two).

In this article, the comprehensive review on the application, and indeed, a comparative analysis on dry machining of different types of materials (Inconel, steel, aluminum, cast iron, magnesium and advanced materials) used in machining (turning, drilling and milling operations) were carried out in the light of utmost works published in the literature. The work describes the scientific findings of the past twenty years, including sustainable methods (surface texture, solid lubricants, vibration-assisted machining, laser-assisted machining), tool coatings, and geometry of tools. Vibration-assisted machining is another direction that researchers have investigated without the use of cutting coolants, where the complete disposal of coolants is not possible. Various researchers have carried out rigorous experimental work on milling, drilling, and turning operations under dry conditions to machine numerous materials. A significant proportion of experimental data about tool wear, tool wear machining, surface quality, surface integrity, etc., has been analyzed under dry conditions. However, the critical analysis of dry machining for different conventional machining operations for a variety of industrial materials is still lacking for establishing dry machining as a sustainable process for industrial applications. Thus, the critical analysis of various machining parameters and their consequences on tool wear and the surface quality of machined work was carried out in this work. Finally, scientific recommendations based on critical findings were proposed for industrial implementation of dry machining.

Water-based lubricants with different fractions of TiO2 nanoparticles ranging from 1.0 to 9.0 wt% were utilized to study the lubrication mechanisms during micro rolling tests and the tribological behaviour of nanolubricants during the micro rolling of copper foils. The results indicate that the application of TiO2 nanolubricants remarkably improves the surface quality of rolled copper foils during rolling processes. For lubricants with inadequate TiO2 nanoparticles, it is found that few TiO2 nanoparticles enter the contact regions between the rolls and foils, causing insufficient lubrication during rolling processes. Instead, for lubricants with excessive TiO2 nanoparticles, obvious agglomeration occurs at the contact regions and promotes the generation of voids on the surface of the rolled foils, thereby deteriorating the surface quality of the rolled copper foils. In addition, it is found that the surface quality of rolled foils is improved by utilizing a large reduction ratio. Overall, the fraction of 3.0 wt% TiO2 nanolubricants is optimal to improve the lubrication conditions at the contact regions, thereby improving the surface quality of the rolled copper foils.
