“…In this study, we observed dissimilarity in the grouping behaviour exhibited by resident and translocated males. In agreement with literature (Parrini et al 2009;Toïgo et al 1995), in the Marmolada colony, resident males gathered frequently into large groups of 11 to 20 individual and were often observed in groups composed by more than 20 individuals. It is also important to notice how, from 2006 to 2008, we recorded an increase in frequency of individuals observed in "very large" groups.…”

“…This high site fidelity is probably linked to the morphology of the study area, in which the sites most suitable during winter coincide with those preferred by males in summer. In fact the largest Alpine grasslands, which constitute the preferred environment for males (Grignolio et al 2003;Parrini et al 2009), are south facing and characterized by steep slopes and therefore during winter are covered by a lower snow depth. During the other seasons, the same areas are probably selected in relation to forage availability.…”

“…Furthermore, the releasing point coincides with a rocky area that is more preferred by females. Females are more dependent on steep terrain throughout the year than males (Parrini et al 2009) and especially during the breeding season (Refoyo 2012).…”
