Capillary electrophoresis of natural products: Highlights of the last five years (2006–2010)

Abstract: An extensive search of the published research and review articles indicated a growing number of works that employed electroseparation techniques. Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) and electrokinetic chromatography (EKC), in particular, were found to be popular for the analyses of natural products. This review outlines the important developments in this field over the years, especially during the 2006-2010 period. An overview of the natural product applications such as pharmaceuticals/herbal products, finger… Show more

“…Natural products have also been the subject of research in this field. A variety of natural product compounds that exhibit chirality have been studied using CE techniques . Chirality is also of major importance in the biological activity of compounds, and thus, Kodama et al studied the content of the naturally occurring antioxidant (R)‐lipoic acid in food supplements.…”

“…The aim of this review is to highlight the developments of CE on natural products for 2011–2012. This follows a similar review of Rabanes et al , which covered the same topic from 2006 to 2010. The search of published research and review papers was done via Scopus (http://www.scopus.com) using the keywords CE, CZE, MEKC, and natural products.…”

“…First of all, the buffer pH value was optimized, because this parameter is very relevant for dissociated stages of the analytes and has great impact on the attitude of BAs during electrophoretic separation [31]. The pH value was chosen after careful reviewing of the pK a values of all the studied compounds.…”
