Abstract

What parameters limit the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to operate effectively in the P/CVE space? To answer this question, we need to consider a number of aspects, including the relationships between CSOs and other stakeholders. CSOs grow out of the communities they represent and benefit from close ties to the members of that community. Successful CSOs have complex relationships with domestic and foreign governments; whilst many CSOs receive funding from governments, they must protect their perception of independence to remain legitimate.
