Show more

“…Therefore, for plant height, the selection of plants with lower values is interesting. A shorter cycle length facilitates an optimized exploitation of the areas by different crops in rotation and a greater chance of phytosanitary stability and frost resistance, which is essential in second season crops (Bolson et al, 2016).…”

“…Rosa et al (2020) also reported the good performance of tester 70.H26.1 in exploring the genetic variability among forage maize progenies. In this context, the tester that provides the highest estimates of genetic variance among topcross hybrids is the most appropriate, allowing the expression of the genetic variability of the progenies and highlighting the ones with greatest genetic merit (Guimarães et al, 2012;Bolson, Scapim, Clovis, Amaral Junior, & Freitas, 2016;Miotto et al, 2016;Figueiredo et al, 2018).…”

“…Daronch et al (2014) stated that breeding program success depends on efficiently selecting parents for promising hybrid and segregating populations. Various techniques, including the widely used diallel cross (Bolson et al 2016, Fasahat et al 2016, Rodrigues et al 2018, aim to enhance the likelihood of obtaining superior segregating populations. This method provides estimates of useful genetic parameters that allow selection of promising parents for obtaining hybrids, assisting understanding of the genetic effects responsible for expression of a determined trait (Cruz, 2006).…”
