Cannabis Use Is Inversely Associated with Metabolic Disorders in Hepatitis C-Infected Patients (ANRS CO22 Hepather Cohort)

Abstract: Background and Aims. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with the onset of metabolic disorders which constitute risk factors for liver disease progression. Their impact may persist after the HCV infection has been cured. Cannabis use is associated with a lower risk of obesity and diabetes in both general and HCV populations. The associations between cannabis use and both dyslipidemia and hypertension have not yet been studied in persons with chronic HCV infection. Methods. Using cross-sectional dat… Show more

“…With a multiverse of biochemical compounds (cannabinoids and non-cannabinoids (Phenolics, Terpenes, and Alkaloids)), cannabis spp has been reported by several communities to have medicinal activities against several disease-causing pathogens 21 including HCV. HCV Population had lower rates of diabetes and obesity when they consumed cannabis, however, whether this translates into lower mortality should be investigated 22 . It has been observed to address key challenges like nausea, and depression in HCV Patients.…”

“…There are a lot of studies that describe cannabinoids impact on pain management, Parkinson's disease, spasticity due to multiple sclerosis or paraplegia, epilepsy, ophthalmological diseases, or different kinds of psychiatric disorders [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. In recent years, interest in the potential therapeutic properties of CBD in the treatment of cardiovascular [17], cancer [18], metabolic [19], and neurodegenerative [20] diseases has increased.…”
