Canine Parvovirus Type 2a (CPV-2a)-Induced Apoptosis in MDCK Involves Both Extrinsic and Intrinsic Pathways

Abstract: The canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) causes an acute disease in dogs. It has been found to induce cell cycle arrest and DNA damage leading to cellular lysis. In this paper, we evaluated the apoptotic potential of the "new CPV-2a" in MDCK cells and elucidated the mechanism of the induction of apoptosis. The exposure of MDCK cells to the virus was found to trigger apoptotic response. Apoptosis was confirmed by phosphatidylserine translocation, DNA fragmentation assays, and cell cycle analysis. Activation of casp… Show more

“…All three variants (2a, 2b, and 2c) have been reported in South America since 2007, affecting young dogs from all breeds [ 12 - 16 ]. Immunochromatography tests, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), nucleotide sequencing, and virus isolation in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells are commonly used to detect and characterize CPVs [ 17 - 21 ].…”

“…Both pathways involve the sequential activation of caspases. Many studies have reported Doley et al 2014;Zhang et al 2018) that parvovirus infection usually induces Fig. 5 OMT decreases S-phase arrest induced by MVC infection at early stages of infection.…”

“…Apoptosis plays a predominant role in contributing to the pathogenic process of virus infection [21] and presents specific morphological and molecular changes, including chromatin margination, DNA fragmentation [22,23]. Previous studies showed that PPV infection induced PK-15 apoptosis via mitochondria-mediated pathway [19].…”
