“…The most immature infants appear to be at highest risk for fungal endophthalmitis (reviewed in reference 29). In an early study of VLBW infants, endophthalmitis occurred in four (50%) of eight cases of fungal sepsis, with excellent prognosis after prompt treatment with amphotericin B and 5-fluorocytosine (28).
