“…Work carried out has shown that it is less toxic than chlortetracycline (Tubaro and Banci 1964) while still retaining the same antibacterial spectrum and high in vivo antibacterial activity (Tubaro and Barletta 1963; Tubaro 1964a). The great solubility of clomocycline throughout the pH range is said to ensure rapid and effective absorption by the oral route enabling a low total daily dosage to be given (Tubaro 1964a; Mercati and Ribotta 1963; Mazza and Diversi 1964; Buscino et al 1963; Dispensa 1965). Estimated high urinary levels (Tubaro 1964a; Martin and Kliger 1966) in addition to the above claims suggested that clomocycline would be worth assessing as a urinary antiseptic.…”
