Restudy of type and other material shows that the Cambrian (Sunwaptan, Furongian) agnostoid arthropod Lotagnostus americanus (Billings, 1860), far from being distributed globally, can be identified with confidence only at its type locality of Quebec. As such, it is ill-suited as an index for international correlation. Lotagnostus obscurus Palmer, 1955, from Nevada is not a synonym of L. americanus and is most similar to other effaced species from Australia. Sclerites from Avalonian Canada are represented by perhaps as many as two species, one of which is L. germanus (Matthew, 1901), and the other is similar to the type species, L. trisectus (Salter, 1864). However, loss of information due to compaction makes L. trisectus difficult to interpret in its type region of Avalonian Britain, and possible occurrences in other areas are therefore questionable at best. At the current state of knowledge, this species name should not be applied outside of Avalonian Britain. Aside from L. obscurus, which may possibly appear in slightly older strata, all Laurentian occurrences are confined to Upper Sunwaptan successions. Most are in the Illaenurus and Prosaukia pyrene zones, although review of material assigned to L. hedini (Troedsson, 1937) in western Newfoundland suggests that this species may occur, albeit questionably, only in the basal Skullrockian Phylacterus saylesi Fauna; indeterminate species occur in the Keithia schucherti Fauna in the latter region. Occurrences in Avalonian Canada are all from the upper Peltura Zone, and are likely somewhat younger (Saukiella junia Subzone and correlatives) than those in Laurentian successions

The Argentine Precordillera ("Precordillera") is part of a larger terrane which is exotic to the western margin of Gondwana. This larger terrane is characterized by a Grenvillian-type basement and the presence of Laurentian carbonate-platform rocks of Cambrian-Ordovician age. The original position of the terrane is interpreted to be the Ouachita embayment of southeastern Laurentia.Terminal Neoproterozoic continental breakup and the formation of the Appalachian-Ouachita margin during the late Precambrian-Early Cambrian established a passive margin to the present east of the Precordillera. This passive margin is the original continental margin of Laurentia, which was located outboard of the Precordillera. Continuous crustal extension during the Cambrian along the Ouachita margin created a marginal plateau that accommodated the Argentine Precordillera carbonate platform. This marginal plateau to Laurentia was separated from mainland Laurentia by a deep graben system, today represented by the offshore Ouachita facies of the southeastern United States. The Cambrian through earliest Middle Ordovician mark the climax of the Laurentian episode because the Argentine Precordillera sediments and fauna are indistinguishible from Laurentia.In the carbonate platform succession of the Argentine Precordillera, the La Laja Formation marks the transition from rift-related redbeds to carbonate sedimentation. The La Laja Formation was deposited on a platform seaward of the nearshore siliciclastic trap but inboard of a (only partly exposed) carbonate belt which might have marked the platform margin. Several third-order cycles developed; differential rates of sea-level rise were the driving forces for cycle formation. Near the base of the La Laja Formation, a sandy interval is separated from the older rocks by a presumed hiatus. This hiatus might represent the Hawke Bay regression event of the eastern margin of Laurentia. Upper Cambrian limestones and dolostones of the Zonda and La Flecha Formations record the evolution of vast peritidal flats. The spatial and biostratigraphical relations between both formations are not clear and await further research. At present, it seems that the lower, more calcareous facies of the La Flecha Formation in the Guandacol subbasin is coeval to the dolomite facies of the Zonda Formation in the San Juan subbasin. The last important terrigenous input is noticed inMarjuman sediments of the La Flecha Formation, which marks a major shift in coastal onlap toward the hinterland. The Tremadocian La Silla Formation reflects a somewhat deeper environment, although open-marine rocks are absent. However, extensive tidal flats are also absent. Se realiza una revisión taxonómica del trilobite corynexochido Plesioparabolina mendozana, que es reclasificado como Bathyuriscus mendozanus, que presenta caracteres morfológicos distintivos respecto a las otras 19 especies laurénticas incluidas en este género. También se incluyen en esta especie algunos ejemplares del mismo género previamente determinados en nomenclatura abierta y, además, se incorporan nuevos especímenes coleccionados por los autores. La mayoría de los fósiles estudiados se encuentran en olistolitos cámbricos, de calizas de plataforma externa, que se hallan alojados en pelitas ordovícicas. Los trilobites estudiados proceden de las localidades ubicadas en quebrada Ojos de Agua, quebrada Los Sombreros, Cordón del Alojamiento y San Isidro, de la Precordillera Argentina. La edad de la especie estudiada se ubica en el Cámbrico medio, Marjumiense, Zona de Oryctocephalus, según el esquema cronoestratigráfico tradicional de Laurentia, lo que equivale en el esquema bioestratigráfico mundial propuesto por la International Subcommission on Cambrian Stratigraphy (ISCS) a la Series 3, a la parte superior del Piso 5 del Cámbrico
