“…The “cloud” or “polylobulated appearance” in renal US was mentioned recently by Ochoa Santiago et al as a feature to help in the diagnosis of calyceal diverticulum . It could be present in large diverticula; however, none of diverticula in the present study had this appearance.…”

“…Contrast‐enhanced studies in the excretory phase are used to diagnose calyceal diverticula because the key imaging finding is to demonstrate the passage of contrast to the renal cystic cavity because of communication with the renal collecting system . Among those studies, a CT scan in the excretory phase (CT urography) is the most commonly used imaging modality to confirm the existence of calyceal diverticula with 95% sensitivity . It has recently replaced the intravenous urography (IVU) due to its ability to provide valuable anatomic information, delineate the location of the diverticulum, and its relationship to the collecting system .…”

“…A calyceal diverticulum is a urine-filled cystic lesion lined with transitional epithelium, which develops as the outpouching into the renal parenchyma and communicates with the upper collecting system via a narrow channel [1][2][3][4][5]. The etiology of a calyceal diverticulum is unclear [1,2].…”

The etiology of a calyceal diverticulum is unclear [1,2]. The most common theory is a congenital factor of an embryologic origin, even though it may develop due to obstruction, infection, or trauma [1][2][3]5].…”
