Calibration of the Suanni small-angle neutron scattering instrument at the China Mianyang Research Reactor

Abstract: A series of calibration measurements have been performed on Suanni – the first small‐angle neutron scattering spectrometer entering into routine user operation in China – aiming to characterize instrument performance and to provide a reference for user experiments. Various calibration standards were used to verify the precise association of the scattering intensity I with the scattering vector magnitude q at short and medium sample–detector distances. The measurements recorded for silver behenate powder reveal… Show more

“…The MOP solutions for SANS measurements are 30 mg/mL THF-d 8 solutions. The obtained two-dimensional (2D) SANS data were reduced to 1D absolute intensity profiles in the Igor Pro environment . Model fitting of SANS profiles was done in software SasView…”

“…The sample-to-detector distance (SDD) is 1.8 m and the wavelength λ is 0.53 nm, resulting in a q range of 0.2 to 2.0 nm − 1 . 41 The magnitude of the scattering vector q de ned by q = (4π /λ)sin(θ /2), where θ is the scattering angle. The wavelength spread (Δλ/λ) is currently about 18%.…”

“…1(b). The center of the heating chamber is designed to be 10 mm away from the edge of BSS, considering that the typically chosen diameter of the neutron beam of the SANS-Suanni spectrometer [42][43][44] at China Mianyang Research Reactor 45 (CMRR) is 8 mm. A displacement sensor is used to detect the position of SU2, which can easily indicate possible errors of position after cyclic tension.…”
