Calculation Model for Estimation of Residual Bearing Capacity of Damaged Reinforced Concrete Slender Columns

Abstract: This work is devoted to the study of the influences of various parameters on the bearing capacities of compressed reinforced concrete columns of varying flexibilities damaged during operation. Experimental tests of pilot samples were carried out, and results were analyzed on the basis of which it was established that significant longitudinal bending was observed in the direction of the x-axis. By analyzing the influences of the angle and depth of damage on the behavior and nature of the destruction in the expe… Show more

“…Developing methods for strengthening RC structures requires the improvement of calculation methodologies. To determine the necessary amount of reinforcement for structures, their residual bearing capacity needs to be known [10,11]. Only by having the exact value of the residual strength is it possible to design economic strengthening of structures.…”

“…However, the columns failed mainly due to the overall buckling associated with concrete crushing and buckling of steel bars. Kos et al (2022) carried out tests on RC slender columns to study the failure modes and the residual strengths of the damaged columns. A calculation model was proposed to calculate the residual strength of the damaged columns and validated against the test results.…”

“…These can be technological solutions that allow the creation of buildings and structures, including increased responsibility, through the introduction of new technologies, expensive equipment and digital computer programs [6][7][8][9][10]. However, an interesting approach involves the search for hidden reserves and unexplored areas in those existing types of structures that are known, but so far have not been taken into account in design, calculation and modeling [11][12][13][14][15]. In this regard, such building structures look promising, which are either known and proposed in regulatory and technical documents, proven and reliable building structures, but with a new approach to them through the use of new materials [16][17][18][19][20].…”
