Calcium Fructoborate for Bone and Cardiovascular Health

Abstract: Calcium fructoborate (CF), a natural sugar-borate ester found in fresh fruits and vegetables, is a source of soluble boron. CF contains three forms of borate (diester, monoester, and boric acid) and all are biologically active, both at the intracellular (as free boric acid) and extracellular level (as fructose-borate diester and monoester). At the cellular and molecular level, CF is superior to the boric acid/borate, exhibiting a complex “protective” effect against inflammatory response. CF is commercially ava… Show more

“…Vegetables, fruits and honey are the basic sources of fructoborates (fructoborate esters, FB), mainly in the form of calcium (Ca 2+ ) fructoborate complex (Pietrzkowski et al, 2014;Donoiu et al, 2018). Fructoborates have positive synergic interactions with ions of Ca, Mg, Zn, Fe and Cu; FB have a better interaction capacity with glycoproteins versus that of the boric acid or borate (Mogoşanu et al, 2016;Hunter et al, 2019). In contrast, FB are antagonized by Si (as orthosilicic acid), iodine and fluoride (Hunter et al, 2019).…”

“…[1][2][3][4] The bis-fructose ester of BA has been detected in plants, fruits, seeds, honey, and some foodstuffs; it is clear that the fructoborate ester is a naturally occurring part of the human diet. 5,6 Calcium fructoborate (CFB), a natural sugar-borate ester, is the most studied boronbased compound and the only nutritional supplement that is found in nature. [7][8][9] CFB is a patented plant mineral compound, which is displayed and sold as bulk as a nutritional supplement under the name of FruiteX-B ® (FrxB), 10 a nature-identical analogue of a plant mineral complex with potential health benefits for conditions associated with inflammation of the bone, joint and cardiovascular system.…”

[6][7][8][9][10][11][12] In the past, quantification of boronic/boric/borate esters has been performed using liquid and solid 11 B-NMR, 11,13,14 TLC, [15][16][17] HPLC coupled with UV or fluorometric detection, 18 thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy 19 either alone or in combination with other compounds.…”

“…Since they are involved in cellular metabolism, boron containing biomolecular structures are also vital for the human health [19][20][21]. Although their action of mechanisms in the biologic systems are not clear yet, the boron containing compounds including boric acid/borates are investigated for their therapeutic effects [22,23]. Among the boron containing compounds, boric acid (BA)/borate is widely investigated for its possible health and curing effects [24,25].…”
