Background. This study is an exploration to assess the potential of turmeric extract in the induction of fibroblast cell proliferation, where fibroblast cells are important cells in the process of repair and healing of wounds (socket wounds after tooth extraction). The antioxidants found in turmeric extract are believed to have potential in the initiation of growth factors which will then initiate the process of fibroblast cell activation, which in turn will play a role in wound healing. Methods. The research design in this study is an experimental study with a post-test-only approach with a control group design. The research subjects in this study were rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain, male sex, age 8-12 weeks, and body weight between 150-250 grams. A total of 30 white rats were grouped into 5 groups. Data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS 25 software. First, a univariate analysis was performed to present the mean number of fibroblast cells and the standard deviation. Furthermore, an analysis was carried out to assess the difference in the mean number of fibroblast cells between groups using the one-way ANOVA test. Results. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that there were significant differences between the test groups. Giving 10% and 15% turmeric extract was seen to be more potent in the initiation of the number of fibroblast cells than the treatment group that received povidone-iodine. Conclusion. Turmeric extract (Curcuma domestica Val.) concentration of 15% was the most effective concentration as an effort to increase the number of fibroblast cells after tooth extraction in Wistar rats.

Ramania leaves extract contains secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, steroids, phenols and terpenoids which can be used as an alternative medicine for socket wound healing. Flavonoids have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can accelerate wound healing and can stimulate the formation of osteoblasts. Analyzing the differences in the number of osteoblasts in the negative control group, positive control given aloe vera gel 15% and ramania leaf extract gel 15% on day 5, 7 and 14. This study used true experimental design with posttest-only control design, using 27 rats divide into 3 groups. The experimental animals were sacrificed on days 5, 7 and 14 for histopathological observations. Two-Way ANOVA test results obtained p value = 0.013 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant difference between the use of 15% ramania leaf extract gel 15% and the number of osteoblasts on days 5, 7 and 14. Bonferroni's Post Hoc test showed a difference. The number of osteoblasts was significant among the negative control group with ramania leaf extract gel 15%. Ramania leaf extract gel 15% was proven to be able to increase the number of osteoblasts and has the potential as an alternative medicine for socket healing after tooth extraction.

Background: Alveolar osteitis is a well-known complication that occurs following a tooth extraction when the clot within the socket breaks down too early, causing increased localised inflammation and extreme pain. Alveolar osteitis delays the wound healing process of the socket. The polyphenols in the cocoa bean (Theobroma cacao L.) can stimulate the wound healing process. Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of an 8% cocoa bean extract gel on the healing of alveolar osteitis following a tooth extraction. Methods: This study is an in vivo experiment with a posttest-only control group design. Thirty-six male Wistar rats were divided into three groups: a negative control, positive control and an 8% cocoa bean extract gel. A tooth extraction was performed on the mandibular incisor, and alveolar osteitis was induced by the application of adrenaline using a paper point on the socket. On the 3rd, 7th and 14th days, the clinical wound size of the extraction socket was measured, and the rats were sacrificed to observe the number of macrophages, fibroblasts and osteoblasts microscopically. A two-way analysis of variance test and post hoc least significant difference test were used to analyse the data (p < 0.05). Results: The data analysis showed a significant difference in the clinical wound size of the extraction socket and the number of macrophages, fibroblasts and osteoblasts between the 8% cocoa bean extract gel and the control groups (p = 0.000). Conclusion: An 8% cocoa bean extract gel stimulates the healing of alveolar osteitis following tooth extraction in Wistar rats.
