Cacao Seed (Theobroma Cacao L.) Extract Gel Effect on the Neutrofil Number After Tooth Extraction

Abstract: Background: Tooth extraction is tooth removal procedure from the alveolar socket. Tooth extraction causes wounds in the form of exposed alveolar bone to the oral cavity where the treatment should be observed. Wound healing is begun by an inflammatory phase. The first defense cells that come to the wound tissue are neutrophils. The excessive post-traumatic inflammation can lead neutrophils to be overactivated. This condition may prolong and aggravate the inflammatory response. This study is to determine the eff… Show more

“…21,23 The sample of this study used 27 male wistar rats aged 2-3 months with a bodyweight of 250-300 grams which were divided into 3 treatment groups, namely the untreated group, the group given Aloe vera gel, and the group given the 15% concentration of Ramania leaf extract gel. 3 The study began with the adaptation of mice for 7 days. Before tooth extraction, the rats were injected with ketamine general anesthetic intraperitoneally, then the lower left incisor of the wistar rat was extracted with a needle holder, causing post-extraction injuries.…”

“…The polyphenols in cocoa beans promote the activity and proliferation of cells through affecting growth factor receptors, which accelerates the wound healing process. 6 According to a previous study by Kurniawati et al, 7 an 8% cocoa bean extract gel can reduce the number of neutrophil cells in the healing process of tooth extraction wounds in Wistar rats.…”
