CaAlaAT1 catalyzes the alanine: 2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase reaction during the resistance response against Tobacco mosaic virus in hot pepper

Abstract: Hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Bugang) plants exhibit a hypersensitive response (HR) upon infection by Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) pathotype P0. To elucidate molecular mechanism that underlies this resistance, hot pepper cv. Bugang leaves were inoculated with TMV-P0 and genes specifically up-regulated during the HR were isolated by differential screening. One of the clones, CaAlaAT1 encoding a putative alanine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.2) exhibited organ-specific expression pattern and the transcript accum… Show more

“…3; Table 1). In parallel with our observation, Kim et al . (2005) reported in hot pepper that AlaAT was inducible by viral and bacterial pathogens, senescence, SA and ethylene and followed a similar induction pattern to PR‐1, linking this protein to defence against pathogens.…”

“…Furthermore, we observed an up-regulation of HSR203J that was previously shown to be transcriptionally up-regulated during the HR-PCD (Takahashi et al, 2004). In addition, we observed an up-regulation of alanine aminotransferase (AlaAT), which was shown to be transcriptionally up-regulated in Capsicum annuum undergoing a TMV-P 0 - or Xanthomonas campestris -induced HR-PCD (Kim et al, 2005). Our data suggests that the transcriptional up-regulation of HSR203J and AlaAT also results in an up-regulation of their protein abundance, and that it occurs early on during HR-PCD.…”

“…To clarify whether the phenomenon of in vitro abscission is associated with senescence we monitored the expression of AlaAT1 , a maker gene of senescence in Capsicum (Kim et al. , 2005).…”
