Ca-hydroxyzincate: Synthesis and Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity for the Degradation of Methylene Blue Under UV-Light Irradiation

Abstract: This paper involves the investigation of the calcined Ca-hydroxyzincate dehydrate (CHZ) as solid base catalysts for photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TG-DTA), and UV-Vis spectroscopy were carried out to characterize and evaluate the as-prepared samples. The calcined catalysts performances were promising compared to non-calcined material. All the photocatalysts prepared under different processing temperat… Show more

“…When the surface of the LDHs is saturated with the dye, Qm and b were determined from the linear plot of 1/Qe versus 1/Ce. The Freundlich isotherm [50] is purely empirical and known to be satisfactory for low concentration is expressed by the Equation (10): (10) The Freundlich parameters are determined using the linear form of this model, by Equation (11): (11) where kF and n are the Freundlich parameters, whose values were obtained from the plot of log Qe against log Ce. The linear form of Langmuir is given in Figure 8.…”

“…Many advanced researches have been focused on different methods for dye removal from wastewaters such as biological degradation [10], photodegradation [11], coagulation [12], membrane filtration [12], reverse osmosis [14], adsorption [6,9], or the synergic treatment using different methods. Therefore, adsorption was the treatment economic solution and has been widely studied for a high-efficiency [15].…”

“…3). Generally, photocatalytic degradation of target organics is among the most widely investigated methods for removal of organic pollutants in aqueous media [84,85]. Recently, severally reviews have been published on some advanced methods for removal of ECs in water [86][87][88][89].…”

“…During the last decades, a series of natural adsorbents, including activated carbon [21,22], clay [23], zeolites [24], montmorillonite [25], alginate [26], bentonite [27] and dolomite [28] have been developed to eliminate dyes from water but present some disadvantages. Thus, the research turned to synthetic adsorbents, and the polyoxometallates have received a growing attention not only because of their potential applications in the of catalysis [29][30][31][32] and magnetism [33], but also for their fascinating architectures, including chiral structures [34], penetrating frameworks [35], electronic [36,37], biological chemistry [38,39], photocatalysis [40][41][42], adsorbents [43], medicine [44] and biocatalysis [45]. In this context, we report the hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of the polyoxometallate vanadotungstate K 7 V 5 W 8 O 40 •12H 2 O a Keggintype polyanion.…”
