Butyl methacrylate based monoliths with different cross‐linking agents using DMF‐aqueous buffer as porogen

Abstract: A simple porogen containing only DMF and aqueous buffer was used for synthesis of monolithic stationary media for CEC). Butyl methacrylate (BMA)-based capillary monoliths were obtained using proposed porogen together with acrylic/methacrylic cross-linking agents with different alkyl chain lengths. For this purpose, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, butanediol dimethacrylate and hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) were used. The monoliths with better electrochromatographic separation performance were obtained when the a… Show more

“…In the literature, some authors report on poly(AM- co -AA) crosslinked with NMBAM [ 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ]. In this work, AM and AA were copolymerized and crosslinked with HDDA since it contributes to the high level of conversion of acrylic double bonds [ 47 , 48 ]. Under the UV-visible light exposure in the presence of a suitable photoinitiator (Darocur 1173), a chemically crosslinked three-dimensional copolymer was successfully obtained.…”

“…As shown by Beytepe et al, HDDA-based monoliths were successfully used in CEC. 14 In order to obtain better accuracy and reproducibility, and especially the high throughout of the analysis, a poly(HDDA-co-BMA-co-EDMA) monolith was prepared via a simple one-step polymerization and was used successfully in HPLC in this work.…”

“…These monoliths are usually prepared by free‐radical polymerization of a mixture containing one or more functional monomers, including a crosslinker, a porogenic solvent, and an initiator. Heat and UV irradiation are the most common ways of initiating polymerization. Photopolymerization provides several advantages over thermal initiation such as fast preparation, higher bed uniformity, and easy selection of polymerization regions by using masks, which is particularly important in relation to the manufacturing of microfluidic chips .…”
