Bulk and interfacial physical properties of aqueous solutions of sodium lauryl sulphate and lauryl alcohol. Part III: The effect of impurities and additives on pH and electrical conductance of premicellar and micellar solutions of sodium lauryl sulphate

Abstract: Experimental measurements of the pH, electrical conductance and Kraft temperatures were made for a number of commercially available and purified samples of sodium lauryl sulphate for a wide range of surfactant concentrations in aqueous solutiin at 25°C. The efect of lauryl alcohol and sodium chloride on the pH and electrical conductance was also studied. The effects of type of electrodes, sequence of measurements, the memory effect, mixing and carbon dioxide were explored for the pH measurements. The results s… Show more

“…Surface tension measurements [12] of cupferron solutions are similar to those of water. When the conductivities of cupfemn solutions of various concentrations were plotted against concentration, no inflexion was observed which would be a characteristic of micelle formation by a surfactant in water [28]. Hence, cupferron is not a surfactant and its collector property is only due to chemisoption.…”

“…Similar run have polytherms for SAA mixtures (for example, a mixture of alkyl sulfates differing in the alkyl chain lengths or a mixture of different salt forms of the given alkyl sulfate [10][11][12][13]) and, which is especially important, for mixtures of alkyl sulfates and primary fatty alcohols used in their synthesis. As shown previ- …”
