Bulgarian golden root in vitro cultures for micropropagation and reintroduction

Abstract: Abstract:Rhodiola rosea is an endangered medicinal plant used for cancer, cardiovascular, and nervous system diseases therapy. Due to its limited distribution and sustainability alternative methods for production of its valuable substances are under investigation. “…In vitro cultures from R. rosea are extensively used for biotransformation procedures in order to enhance the secondary metabolite production or for micropropagation of plants for the restoration of exhausted habitats (Tasheva and Kosturkova 2010). There are many factors affecting the in vitro culture induction from R. rosea, including plant ecotype, type of explants, nutrient medium compositions (plant growth regulators, carbon source and inorganic salts), light, temperature, and presence of precursors and elicitors, (Tasheva and Kosturkova 2010;Grech-Baran et al 2015).
