Building a Personalized Medicine Infrastructure for Gynecological Oncology Patients in a High-Volume Hospital

Abstract: Gynecological cancers require complex intervention since patients have specific needs to be addressed. Centralization to high-volume centers improves the oncological outcomes of patients with gynecological cancers. Research in gynecological oncology is increasing thanks to modern technologies, from the comprehensive molecular characterization of tumors and individual pathophenotypes. Ongoing studies are focusing on personalizing therapies by integrating information across genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics… Show more

“…P4 medicine creates effective predictive, personalized, and preventive action and collaborative models for treatments. Based on the a study conducted with gynecological oncological patients [2], we believe that these types of cancers require multidimensional and focused interventions, since patients have complex, specific, and unmet needs. Such a personalized approach also integrates psycho-cognitive aspects in order to empower the patient, increase her quality of life, and transform her from a passive into an active decision maker in the treatment process [3].…”

“…In the third decade of the 21st century, gynecological surgeons are faced with new technical developments but also with new expectations. The surgical evolution is reflected by individualized approaches to patients and treatments (1), increasing role of "omics" and advanced imaging methods for surgical decisions (2,3), the substantial shift from vaginal to laparoscopic concepts in urogynecology (4)(5)(6), increasing role of the robotic-assisted surgery or increased awareness about surgical complications and their prevention (7).…”
