During a one-year period we could observe 3 children with the rare disease of plastic bronchitis. Two of them showed a symptomatic form, one with constrictive pericarditis, the other with bronchial asthma as primary diseases. No underlying disease could be found in the third case. Bronchial casts had to be extracted during endoscopy in all children. No relapse occurred after 2–3 years. Reviewing the literature, 37 cases of plastic bronchitis in childhood could be found, most of them had been reported before 1954

A 68-year-old woman without asthma presented with a cough and abnormal shadows on a chest X-ray. Computed tomography showed right middle lobe atelectasis and centrilobular nodules with a tree-in-bud appearance in the other lobes. The patient's sputum repeatedly yielded positive cultures of nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM); however, no fungi were detected. A transbronchial biopsy showed allergic mucin with eosinophils, although the findings were not diagnostic. We suspected that the patient had pulmonary mycobacteriosis; however, treatment for this condition failed. We then performed thoracoscopy for further evaluation and treatment of the NTM infection. The resected specimen obtained from the right middle lobe exhibited the characteristic findings of allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis without evidence of mycobacterial infection. The administration of corticosteroids and itraconazole resulted in improvement of the patient's condition. The NTM appeared to be simply a coincidental colonization of the resected middle lobe bronchus. The absence of asthma, the inability to isolate fungi and the repeated isolation of NTM made it difficult to differentiate allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis from NTM infection.

B Br ro on nc ch ho oc ce en nt tr ri ic c g gr ra an nu ul lo om ma at to os si is s a an nd d c ce en nt tr ra al l d di ia ab be et te es s i in ns si ip pi id du us s s su uc cc ce es ss sf fu ul ll ly y t tr re ea at te ed d w wi it th h c co or rt ti ic co os st te er ro oi id ds s We report a case of histologically confirmed pulmonary bronchocentric granulomatosis temporally associated with a partial central diabetes insipidus (CDI).Although the pathological basis of the posterior pituitary gland involvement was not ascertained, the temporal association of bronchocentric granulomatosis and central diabetes insipidus, as well as the fact that corticosteroid treatment provided stable remission of both conditions after a 10 month follow-up, strongly suggest that central diabetes insipidus was aetiologically related to bronchocentric granulomatosis in this patient.
