Abstract: Although several of the high-resolution CT findings of BOOP and CEP are different, these diseases are differentiated with confidence in only a small percentage of cases.

“…Similar to what is seen in COP, consolidations can be migratory. In fact, the two diseases can be difficult or impossible to distinguish on HRCT scans, (106) in some cases also overlapping in lung biopsies. The diagnosis of CEP is based on a history of insidious clinical onset, characteristic chest X-ray appearance of peripheral infiltrates with transient opacities, and peripheral eosinophilia.…”

“…The CT findings in AEP patients consisted mainly of bilateral patchy areas of ground-glass attenuation, interlobular septal thickening, thickening of the bronchovascular bundles, and the presence of pleural effusion without cardiomegaly (Cheon et al, 1996). Unlike AEP, bilateral air-space consolidation with peripheral predominance was the most frequent CT finding in CEP, followed by linear and reticular opacities and ground-glass opacities (Mayo et al, 1989;Arakawa et al, 2001). HRCT manifestations of drug-induced EPs resemble those of chronic EP, bilateral air-space consolidation, peripherally distributed ground-glass opacities, nodules, and irregular lines (Souza et al, 2006).…”

“…Diseases with the symptoms of allusive signs of the chronic eosinophilic pneumonia were selected for comparison [26][27][28]. The first group was composed of 50 accidentally selected consecutive patients with radiographically confirmed hospital treated community-acquired pneumonia (COP); the second group consisted of 21 consecutive asthmatic patients with previously diagnosed disease, who had caught hospital treated COP between 1997 and 2008.…”
