Broadcast network model of pulsars as beacons of extraterrestrial civilizations

Abstract: According to the Kardashev scale, likely extraterrestrial civilizations above Type-I might use natural energy sources of the Universe, which is also true for transmitting their signals out to distances. A variety of studies have shown that radio pulsars are most likely candidates for this. First, the current study examined how the radio beams of pulsars scan across their environment. Later when the radio beams of pulsars have been modulated, a network model has been proposed on how many habitable planets possi… Show more

“…On the other hand, calm supergiants and neutron stars could be used entirely to generate energy due to their large luminosity. Of course, flaring activities in giant stars and neutron stars which tend to enter dangerous phases such as a magnetar are not included in this group (Sguera et al ., 2008; Haliki, 2019). In black holes, the most massive phase of the collapsars, energy could be harvested either from the heat generated using infalling material or by extracting the angular momentum from black hole rotation (Lasota et al ., 2014).…”

“…It is worth noting that pulsars as possible sites for advanced ET activities deserve more and more attention. In particular, Haliki [22] has considered pulsars as possible beacons used by ETs for communication.…”

“…On the other hand, since an amount of energy harnessed by a civilisation in principle might be in between of amounts corresponding to Kardashev's Type-I and Type-II, or Type-II and Type-III, more appropriate designation is fractional ( Ćirković 2015). Search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) started from the last century, but after a signifi-cant contribution of Dyson (1960), the search for alien techno-signatures became one of the priorities of SETI and only the last several years a series of works has been dedicated to this field (Osmanov 2016, 2018, Osmanov and Berezhiani 2018, Caplan 2019, Haliki 2019, Lacki 2019, Osmanov and Berezhiani 2019.…”
