Broadband 1T-titanium selenide-based saturable absorbers for solid-state bulk lasers

Abstract: 1T-titanium selenide (1T-TiSe2), a representative of 1T phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), exhibits semimetallic behaviour with a nearly zero bandgap structure, which makes it a promising photoelectric material. A high-quality multilayer 1T-TiSe2 saturable absorber (SA) is successfully fabricated by a combination of liquid phase exfoliation and the spin coating method. The broadband nonlinear saturable absorption properties of the prepared 1T-TiSe2 SA are investigated by using the open aperture (OA… Show more

“…Large-size monolayer MoSe 2 flakes ( Figure S4a) and uniform continuous film ( Figure S4b) can also be grown on the sapphire substrate with good light transmittance [10,22,23,32,33]. Open-aperture Z-scan measurements were performed using a homemade mode-locked Yb fiber laser operating at 1064 nm with a pulse width of 15 ps and a tunable repetition rate of 40 MHz [34]. The experimental setup is shown in Figure 5a and we further investigated the nonlinear optical absorption properties of as-grown MoSe 2 films (Figure 5b).…”

“…One of the main factors that hinders the development of photonics and optoelectronics is the lack of materials with broad‐band optical response and strong light–matter interaction. Therefore, it is an urgent need and many efforts have been devoted to searching for this kind of novel materials …”

“…These advantages make 1T‐TiSe 2 a promising broadband SA for passively Q‐switched and mode‐locked lasers. Our group fabricated large‐area high‐quality 1T‐TiSe 2 films with the LPE method and obtained a broadband passive Q‐switching solid‐state laser with a 1T‐TiSe 2 SA, achieving pulse lasers operating at 1.0 and 1.3 µm with pulse widths of 483 and 344 ns ( Figure a) …”
