Bringing IoT to Hospital Logistics Systems Demonstrating the concept

Abstract: This paper is focused on demonstrating a real testbed for managing logistics systems in hospital environment exploiting the benefits of M2M and IoT paradigms. The work presents an architecture based on low-cost devices interacting with an enterprise application server placed anywhere in the Internet following the architecture proposed by ETSI for M2M systems. Combining multiple communication technologies (NFC, UMTS, 802.11, ZigBee and 802.3) and adapting their capabilities to different functional requirements,… Show more

“…23 Industry 4.0 imposes challenges to the home-based s-health model. Imagine a modernly designed ''Hospital at Hand,'' 24,25 which communicates all relevant data about objects and people. This would always allow people and situations identification, and have knowledge about teams and their work status, the medical actions, care, realtime updated medical history, the processes and their result, and so on.…”

“…This, coupled with the declining fertility rate, has resulted in a declining workforce and has highlighted the shortage of medical manpower. In addition to patient care, medical staff in medical institutions also need to manage medical equipment and supplies [ 13 ]. Medical devices and equipment such as wheelchairs and crutches are available for rent to people/patients who come to the facility, but people often forget to return them to their original place after using them and may even take them away from the facility.…”

“…At present, the IoT is widely used in hospital medical diagnosis, in some field diagnosis system applications are less, especially in some sports events. [14][15][16] In most of the application scenarios of IoT, the input data of deep learning is pictures or videos. Every day, everyone uses the high-definition camera of mobile phone to take pictures and videos.…”
