The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth responses of various Eucalyptus and Corymbia species subjected to different intensities of simulated hypergravity relative to the control. A centrifuge was used to simulate hypergravity. It was developed and built at the Centro de Microgravidade of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Seeds of five Eucalyptus and one Corymbia species (E. grandis, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus benthamii, Eucalyptus saligna, Eucalyptus dunnii, and C. maculata) were placed on moist germination paper in plastic containers and rotated at speeds simulating 5 Gz and 7 Gz for different lengths of time. Hypergravity technology significantly increased seedling production (diameter, height, and survival at 120 days) in nurseries. In E. globulus, the effects of hypergravity were significant at 7 Gz at all lengths of time (from 1 d to 9 days). Effects of hypergravity were significant in both E. benthamii and E. grandis at 7 Gz and 8 h exposure. Therefore, simulated hypergravity could be used in performance tests of Eucalyptus seedlings in early stages of development.

RESUMOAtualmente, desenvolvimento da tecnologia de análise genômica de alta resolução e alto rendimento tem a capacidade de gerar informações sobre milhões de pares de bases em um único ensaio, permitindo a detecção de variação em um único nucleotídeo de uma sequência de DNA. Este contexto possibilitou o surgimento de novas abordagens para a seleção assistida por marcadores, dentre elas os estudos de associação genômica ampla (GWAS), que visam o mapeamento genético por meio das associações entre os locos e a característica fenotípica na população e buscam detectar efeitos dos genes sobre os valores genéticos dos indivíduos; e a seleção genômica ampla (GWS), que detecta genótipos favoráveis por meio de informações genotípicas para inferir sobre os valores fenotípicos futuros, ou valores genômicos. Estas técnicas têm sido exploradas por meio de estudos de simulação e aplicação nos programas de melhoramento tradicionais para diversas culturas. Por outro lado, sua aplicação no melhoramento de forrageiras é restrita, especialmente no Brasil, porém com resultados promissores. Neste contexto, este estudo traz uma abordagem conceitual do tema sob a visão da genética quantitativa, buscando evidenciar sua aplicação no melhoramento genético de forrageiras. The quantification of biomass is an important tool that helps the forest manager to define the course of the enterprise and the best management techniques. In view of this situation, the objective of the present study was to perform the modeling of above -ground biomass in the different components in Eucalyptus urograndis stands at 4.5 years of age. The stand is located in the south of Brazil, municipality of São Gabriel. Four plots of 577.5 m² were installed and all DBH and heights of 20% of the trees were measured. Four diameter classes were defined, with 3 trees being felled in each of them. All the biomass was weighed in leaves, branches, bark and wood and through samples the moisture content in each component was determined. The modeling showed reliability of 96% for wood estimation and biomass total. The total biomass was 65 Mg ha -1 , of these, 72% of wood. The modeling with stepwise procedure presented good distribution of the residues. Through the easily obtained variables such as DBH and height it is possible to determine the volume of biomass accurately.
