Breech infants: vaginal or cesarean delivery?

Abstract: The results suggest that planned vaginal delivery of singleton breech infants of primiparas result in newborns with lower Apgar-scores, a lower umbilical artery pH and a poorer fetal outcome. On the other hand, it seems that singleton term infants of multiparas do not profit from cesarean delivery.

“…Other studies have reported that women attempting breech vaginal delivery with an unproven pelvis have increased mortality risks compared with parous women. 18 It may be that proven or higher parity is an important selection factor for women attempting vaginal breech delivery. The higher parity in our successful vaginal breech group would support this idea.…”
