Breast cancer recurrence after reconstruction: know thine enemy

Abstract: Breast reconstruction proceeding cancer treatment carries risk, regardless of the type of surgery. From fat grafting, to flap placement, to implants, there is no guarantee that reconstruction will not stimulate breast cancer recurrence. Research in this field is clearly divided into two parts: scientific interventional studies and clinical retrospective evidence. The reconstructive procedure offers hypoxia, a wound microenvironment, bacterial load, adipose derived stem cells; agents shown experimentally to cau… Show more

“…In vivo experiment further verified that SNHG20 promoted tumor growth in glioblastoma. Accumulating evidences indicate that the existence of cancer stem cells is correlated with cell proliferation, migration and self-renewal [28][29][30]. Thus, we further investigated the potential of SNHG20 to regulate stemness in glioblastoma.…”

“…Data mining methods may help reduce the number of false positives and false-negative results in physicians' decision-making [ 12 , 32 ]. Accordingly, new approaches, such as knowledge discovery in databases (KDD), including data mining algorithms, have become increasingly popular and a desirable research tool for medical science researchers.…”

“…Cancer is a multifactorial disease and beside genetic factors, personal lifestyle, smoking, and diet play impressive effects in the etiology of cancer. There is always a balance among the amount of proliferation, the cell senescence, and the differentiation in a healthy organism, this balance is lost during cancer formation [12][13][14].…”
