Breaking Strength and Elongation Properties of Polyester Woven Fabrics on the Basis of Filament Fineness

Abstract: Woven fabrics produced from microfilament yarns are superior to conventional filament fabrics in rain clothes, tents, parachutes, sails, wind-proof clothes, sleeping bags, filters, and surgical gowns due to their distinguishing properties such as good filtration, barrier effect against weather conditions, and light weight. Breaking strength and elongation are important and decisive parameters for these end uses since low strength properties shorten the useful life time as well disable the functionality of thes… Show more

“…According to this, one of the most important mechanical requirements composite fibers must meet is sufficient maximum elongation. Typical textile fabrics, such as cotton, silk, and wool, and polymer fabrics, such as polyester, have an extension ratio from 7% to 40% [33][34][35]. According to these values, during the research, it was decided that the fibers must have a minimum of 40% elongation without breaking to be considered as meeting the basic mechanical requirements.…”

“…In this study, the tensile strength and elongation properties of organic cotton and recycled polyester woven fabrics were determined. All fabric samples were pre-tested following ISO 139 and tested under standard conditions of 20±2℃ and 65±4% humidity [29]. Two samples of each fabric have been tested for each set of tests.…”

“…Finally, increasing the amount of the core portion of the yarn affects elongation at break positively [6,8]. http://www.jeffjournal.org Volume 12, Issue 1 -2017 (11) As seen in Figure 3, the elongations of the denim fabrics produced from 0.33 dtex PET microfilament core cotton covered weft yarns are lower than those of the other filament core yarns for each yarn count. The statistical analysis shows that the effects of filament fineness and yarn count on denim fabric elongation are statistically significant (p<0.0001) with adjusted R 2 values of 92 percent.…”

“…These fabrics are soft, lighter, easy to wash and eco-friendly. There are also several studies in the literature dealing with the performance properties of microfilament yarns, knitted and woven fabrics [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”
