“…The total score ranges from 0 to 63 points, and a higher score indicates more severe depressive symptoms. Theoretically, the depression score should be correlated with the level of tinnitus-related annoyance, at least that is what previous data indicated (Crocetti et al, 2009;Kim et al, 2002;Kleinjung et al, 2007;Newman et al, 1996;Petersen Schmidt et al, 2006;Zachariae et al, 2000). All correlations are signifi cant at the p Ͻ .001 level.…”

Moreover, our clinical experience suggests that, unlike similar types of scales, the THI introduces very little bias related to hearing loss.…”

“…Moreover construct validity of this measure was examined thoroughly in populations of several countries. There seems to be international agreement that the tinnitus-related handicap assessed with the THI total score is highly correlated with self-ratings of tinnitus severity, tinnitus acceptance, depression or anxiety, and self-reported health status [39,43,44,46,48,51,56]. Low to moderate correlations with the THI total score were found between age, tinnitus duration, audiometrically derived measures (e.g., tinnitus pitch), and sleeping difficulties [39,44,46].…”

“…Other authors have published experiences with questionnaires as the Beck's scale of depression, of frequent use in psychology, to estimate in an objective way the disability produced for tinnitus 18 . These measurements allow to quantify of a reproducible form, although subjective, the severity and the tolerance of a tinnitus.…”
