Brazilian Incubators and Science Parks' Resources and R & D Collaboration

Abstract: Abstract:One initiative largely stimulated through public policy to strengthen firms' innovation capacity is the creation and consolidation of Incubators and Science & Technology Parks (ISTPs). These habitats aim to foster innovation through, among other methods, the promotion of resource complementarity and action interdependence. Empirical studies, however, have not been conclusive about this. This article analyse the relations between resources provided by ISTPs and the elements of collaborative R&D. We con… Show more

“…The above can be explained considering that parks and incubators influence collaborative R&D through other instruments besides their services and infrastructure (Schmidt & Balestrin, 2015) and that companies in technology parks tend to establish more cooperation links with universities (student projects, research projects and jobs for graduates) (Fukugawa, 2006;Link & Scott, 2003b;Löfsten & Lindelöf, 2002;Schmidt & Balestrin, 2015). Their proximity to technology parks has a positive impact on the growth of universities and on the research profile (moving more from basic to applied research), as well as favors the increase in the number of publications and patents, the transfer of technologies and the placement of graduates in the job market (Link & Scott, 2003b).…”

“…There are different types of parks (science parks, technology parks, research parks and others), with different legal, management and governance models (ANGLE Technology, 2003;Dabrowska & Faria, 2020;Parry, 2006). There is no consensus on what is a successful technology park (Dabrowska, 2011) and despite the increase in interest in collaboration and innovation among government, academics and professionals, the results of research on the effectiveness of technology parks remain ambiguous (Schmidt & Balestrin, 2015).…”

One should take into account that the interaction between agents and TPs establishes itself through the mechanisms of collaboration and the moderation of conflicts (Carayanis, Rakkamatulli, 2014;Schmidt, Balestrin, 2015).…”
