“…There have been a number of reports on LNOI grating couplers [121,[129][130][131][132][133][134], with a current record coupling efficiency as low as -3.5 dB per coupler [121] (see Figure 8(b)). Two unique problems of LNOI grating couplers are: (1) the anisotropy of LN causes orientation-dependent coupling, (2) nonvertical sidewall angle in dry etching limits minimum pitch size and fill-factor of the gratings.…”

“…WBGs are the integrated photonics counterparts of the well-known fiber Bragg gratings with applications in wavelength division multiplexing and photonic signal processing [15], [16]. In LNOI, integrated waveguide gratings as well as the linear electro-optic shift of the transmission spectrum have been previously demonstrated [17], [18]. EOMs based on WBGs have small footprints in the order of × 400 µm 2 and offer the possibility for high level parallelization on a single chip while the electro-optic bandwidth is not cavity-photon lifetime limited.…”

“…2(a) exhibits a narrow transparent window residing between two broader dips analogous to an EIT spectrum. The intrinsic loss of LN waveguide at a wavelength of 1550 nm is about 3 dB/cm [21]. Apart from the other loss mechanisms, with only the intrinsic loss considered, the transmission peak drops from 0 to −0.012 dB.…”

“…Design and fabrication of optical elements or devices based on LNOI platform have greatly developed in the past few years. In [21], a sidewall corrugated Bragg grating in LNOI platform was designed, fabricated and characterized. The extinction ratio of the LN Bragg grating was demonstrated as high as 27 dB and the rejection bandwidth is 3 nm.…”
