Autori (Frydenberg i Lewis, 1993) koji se slažu oko porasta emocionalnog suočavanja tijekom adolescencije smatraju najčešće da u tom periodu zapravo dolazi do pada funkcionalnog ponašanja. Oni tako nalaze da stariji ispitanici (16 i 17 godina) u odnosu na mlađe (12-15 godina) znatno češće koriste manje funkcionalne startegije kao što su redukcija napetosti i samookrivljavanje, a znatno rjeđe koriste funkcionalne strategije poput naporna rada i postignuća.…”

Cilj rada bio je da se utvrde strategije koje adolescenti u suočavanju sa stresom najčešće koriste te ispitati razlike s obzirom na spol ispitanika. U ispitivanju koje je provedeno u zadarskim trogodišnjim i četverogodišnjim školama, sudjelovali su učenici svih razreda. Istraživanjem je utvrđeno da je u rješavanju problema (različita razmišljanja i ponašanja usmjerena na rješavanje problema s kojim se suočavaju) najviše korišten mehanizam suočavanja sa stresom, te da su tim mehanizmom adolescenti i najzadovoljniji. Drugi po redu najčešće korišten mehanizam je distrakcija (bihevioralni napori u izbjegavanju problematičnih situacija), zatim izbjegavanje (kognitivni napori koji pomažu izbjegavanju razmišljanja o stresnoj situaciji), a potom kognitivno restrukturiranje (razmišljanja o stresnoj situaciji na drukčiji, optimističniji način). Sljedeće, po redu čestoće korištenja, su podrška prijatelja i podrška obitelji. Najrjeđe korištena strategija, kojom su učenici ujedno i najmanje zadovoljni, jest emocionalna reaktivnost (različiti načini "pražnjenja" i iskaljivanja ljutnje). Uzimajući u obzir usporedbu po spolu, utvrđene su statistički značajne razlike kod gotovo svih strategija, i to takve da ih djevojke češće koriste. Jedino u slučaju distrakcije nije utvrđena značajna razlika.Ključne riječi: adolescencija, suočavanje sa stresom Uvod Suočavanja sa stresom Suočavanje se odnosi na različite oblike ponašanja koje pojedinac koristi u odgovaranju na stresne situacije s ciljem da umanji učinke tih stresnih događaja. Copelard i Hess (1995; prema Vulić-Prtorić, 1998) naglašavaju da stilovi suočavanja koji se razvijaju u mlađoj dobi utječu na način kojim će se pojedinac nositi s novim događajima i kasnije u životu. Razlikuje se suočavanje usmjereno na problem i suočavanje usmjereno na emocije. Kada je situacija promjenjiva i osoba percipira da ima kontrolu nad tom situacijom, vjerojatnije je da će koristiti problemu usmjereno suočavanje, za razliku od nepromjenjive i nekontrolirane situacije kada je vjerojatnije da će suočavanje biti usmjereno na emocije. Strategije suočavanja obuhvaćaju sva ona ponašanja koja se koriste u savladavanju poteškoća u stresnim situacijama. Emocionalni, kognitivni i bihevioralni odgovori na stresne situacije variraju ovisno o vremenu u kojem se događaju i obilježjima konkretne stresne situacije.

Adolescent girls' friendships are often disrupted by conflict and aggressive behaviour. Solving these difficulties is challenging as girls claim that adult intervention can make things worse. What advice would girls themselves give their friends if they were experiencing peer relationship difficulties? This study addressed this question using a narrative perspective, and a participatory action research approach. Seventy-five 14 -15-year-old adolescent girls engaged in a series of interactive focus group sessions. A cyclical process of group interviews, discussions and data analysis saw the refinement of the girls' knowledge and the development of 10 key strategies for managing peer conflict. The most highly ranked strategies included: developing a wide circle of friends, having a voice, walking away from conflict, talking individually to peers, and avoiding participating in hurtful behaviours. Acknowledging adolescent girls' knowledge, creativity, and abilities creates an alternative story, enabling them to better manage peer conflict.
