Bottomonium dipion transitions

Abstract: Dipion transitions of the subthreshold bottomonium levels $\Upsilon (nS)\to \Upsilon (n'S) \pi\pi$ with $n>n', n=2,3,4, n'=1,2$ are studied in the framework of the chiral decay Lagrangian, derived earlier. The channels $B\bar B, B\bar B^*+ c.c, B^* \bar B^*$ are considered in the intermediate state and realistic wave functions of $\Upsilon (n S),B$ and $B^*$ are used in the overlap matrix elements. Imposing the Adler zero requirement on the transition matrix element, one obtains 2d and 1d dipion spectra in rea… Show more

“…were reported by Belle, which has stimulated theorists' interest in revealing the underlying mechanism behind these phenomena [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. As a popular and accepted opinion, the hadronic loop mechanism has been applied to explain why there exist anomalous transitions for ϒ(5S) [4][5][6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…In addition, the two bottomonium-like states Z b (10610) and Z b (10650) were observed in ϒ(5S) → ϒ(nS)π + π − [3]. As indicated in a series of theoretical studies [4][5][6][7][8][9][10], the puzzling phenomena occurring in ϒ(5S) transitions reflect an underlying mechanism mediated by a coupled-channel effect, since ϒ(5S) is above the thresholds of B ( * ) (s)B ( * ) (s) [11]. In the bottomonium family, the ϒ(6S) is in a similar situation to that of ϒ(5S).…”

“…Hence the physical quarkonium states have open-flavor meson-pair contributions and possible hybrid (QQg) or tetraquark contributions. The effect of such terms on hadronic transitions is not yet understood [531]. A possibly-related puzzle is the strikingly-large ratio…”

“…The pairs can consist of qq kicked out of the vacuum in space-like separated regions, as in the LUND string model [30] (then some enhancement mechanism is required to explain the strength of the anomalous soft photon signal, as noticed in [51]), or they can appear as closed quarkantiquark loops, as in the model [72][73][74][75][76], which is based on nonperturbative QCD methods applied to the large size systems and contains a strong enhancement mechanism, naturally appearing in this approach. The model was primarily developed for the description of the pion emission by closed qq loops of light quarks inside heavy quarkonia, but it can be applied also for an analogous description of the soft photon radiation deep inside jets, which would be a photon source, additional to the bremsstrahlung radiation from the final state hadrons.…”
