“…The reason for this contradictory result could be an initial adaptive response mechanism against ionizing radiation-induced hepatocellular damage, increasing Nrf-2 transcriptional transactivation to antioxidant genes in an attempt to counteract oxidative stress caused by increased MDA and decreased GSH levels. 82 These findings contradict recent findings 83,84 where significant increases in the liver enzymes AST and ALT were found in mice subjected to g-irradiation, implying hepatocyte membrane degradation and aminotransferase enzyme leakage from the permeable hepatocyte membrane outside hepatocytes. Furthermore, the lack of significant changes in AST and ALT enzyme activities in all g-irradiated groups treated with RGO materials suggests that these have non-deleterious side effects as treatments for g-ray-induced hepatocellular damage.…”

“… 48 In our study, RES and IR stimulated an inflammatory response reflected by the rise of TNF-α and IL-6 cytokines with reduced levels of p38/PGC-1α as compared to the corresponding control, suggesting the involvement of p38 AMPAK in hepatic and kidney injury. Thabet et al 49 reported that PPAR-α/p38 inhibition in hepatocytes resulted in an increased cytokines activation, with a consequent rise in chemokine’s expression for the recruitment of inflammatory cells, leading to hepatocytes apoptosis. Mechanisms proposed; RES may induce hepatocytes injury via the integration of smooth endoplasmic reticulum proliferation, ribosomes, and mitochondrial damage.…”

“…As per literature study, oral administration of boswellic acid to female albino rats at dose levels of 250 mg kg −1 day −1 for 4 weeks with 3 Gy/week (dose of 0.662 Gy/min during experiment) demonstrated considerable improvement against damage caused by IR as confirmed by histopathological examination and biochemical investigations of liver and heart based on alleviation of hepatic oxidative stress markers and hepatotoxicity. In irradiated rats, this was found to help prevent cardiac oxidative stress as well as enhance cardiotoxicity biomarkers through a distinct decline in hepatic glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and maintenance of serum total glycerol, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels in animals (Thabet et al., 2020 ).…”
