“…Since then, much of my work has focused on the application of evidence-based interventions and principles to the development, implementation, and evaluation of gender-specific community-based programs and services for HIV prevention (Amaro, Raj, Reed, & Cranston, 2002; Raj et al, 2002) and for treatment of addiction and mental health and post-traumatic disorders in poor Latina and African American women (Amaro, Chernoff, Brown, Arevalo, & Gatz, 2007; Amaro, Dai, et al, 2007; Amaro, Gampbel, et al, 2005; Amaro, Larson, et al, 2007; Amaro, Melendez, Melnick, & Nieves, 2005). The transition to intervention approaches that address the interconnections among HIV, substance abuse, mental health, and trauma flowed naturally from results of clinical studies and program-implementation experiences that my team of clinicians and researchers conducted over time.…”
