Bootstrap current and neoclassical transport in tokamaks of arbitrary collisionality and aspect ratio

Abstract: A multi-species fluid model is described for the steady state parallel and radial force balance equations in axisymmetric tokamak plasmas. The bootstrap current, electrical resistivity, and particle and heat fluxes are evaluated in terms of the rotation velocities and friction and viscosity coefficients. A recent formulation of the neoclassical plasma viscosity for arbitrary shape and aspect ratio (including the unity aspect ratio limit), arbitrary collisionality, and orbit squeezing from strong radial electri… Show more

“…This torque measurement procedure is repeated for several similar discharges, with different Ω C values on the ρ = 0.67 surface. The resultant total NTV torque as a function of the deuterium toroidal rotation rate, Ω D , (calculated from Ω C using NCLASS [19]) at the ρ = 0.67 surface is plotted with diamonds in Fig. 3 and clearly shows a peak.…”

“…The bootstrap current is estimated to be 59% with the Sauter model 20 and NCLASS model. 21 These models are somewhat sensitive to the input profiles near the axis and edge. The neutral beam current drive fraction is calculated to be 31% from the TRANSP Monte-Carlo beam slowing down calculation, and ECCD calculated by TORAY-GA code 22 is 8%.…”
