Bone Mineral Analogue Ceramic Block as an Instant Adhesive to Biological Soft Tissue

Abstract: Soft-tissue adhesives are an attractive choice for device immobilization by nonsuturing methods. [8] Three glue-type adhesives have been introduced: cyanoacrylate, [9] gelatin-resorcinol-formaldehyde, [10] and fibrin. [11] Although these materials are easily spread over the entire contact area and infiltrated into ruptured tissues, their biocompatibility (for cyanoacrylate and gelatin-resorcinol-formaldehyde adhesives) or bonding strength (for fibrin adhesives) is limited. [8,12] Another strategy is the attach… Show more

“…6b, and adhesion strength was 35.09 ± 4.01 kPa, 33.32 ± 5.00 kPa, 9.74 ± 4.20 kPa for BSA-PAM-2, BSA-PAM-3 and BSA-PAM-4 hydrogel respectively. For BSA-PAM-2, the adhesion strength was higher than commercial glues such as Bioglueand Fibrin (Table 3) [48][49][50].…”

“…In addition to HAp, a porous octacalcium phosphate (OCP) disk was developed by the dissolution–precipitation reaction of calcium hydrogen phosphate in a Na 2 HPO 4 solution [44] . OCP is also biocompatible and can be used as a bone filler for replacing natural bone via metabolic processes [45] .…”

“…Another calcium phosphate based material, the octacalcium phosphate block, was recently shown to adhere strongly ex vivo to mouse dermal tissues. 34 In addition to their potential for tissue adhesion, both HA and BG particles may be interesting to deliver local therapeutic treatments. The ability of the HA lattice to accept ionic substitutions provides a way to insert metallic ions like silver, copper or zinc, which have antibacterial or anti-inammatory effects.…”
