Bonding and Thermal Cycling Performances of Two (Poly)Aryl–Ether–Ketone (PAEKs) Materials to an Acrylic Denture Base Resin

Abstract: Poly(aryl–ether–ketone) materials (PAEKs) are gaining interest in everyday dental practices because of their natural properties. This study aims to analyze the bonding performance of PAEKs to a denture acrylic. Testing materials were pretreated by grinding, sandblasting, and priming prior to polymerization with the denture acrylic. The surface morphologies were observed using a scanning electron microscope and the surface roughness was measured using atomic force microscopy. The shear bond strength (SBS) value… Show more

“…In addition to PEEK, other PAEK family members, such as poly-ether-ketones or poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK), are considered for dental implant or abutment materials [34]. Our previous study had investigated the bonding properties of two PAEKs materials (i.e., PEEK and PEKK) [44]. Within the experiment, the surface roughness, morphology, and hydrophilicity of the two PAEK materials were measurement and compared [44].…”

“…Our previous study had investigated the bonding properties of two PAEKs materials (i.e., PEEK and PEKK) [44]. Within the experiment, the surface roughness, morphology, and hydrophilicity of the two PAEK materials were measurement and compared [44]. The results indicated that no significant difference could be found between the surface roughness and hydrophilicity of the two PAEK materials after process grinding surface pre-treatment.…”

“…As a kind of thermoplastic engineering polymer, poly(aryl ether ketone) (PAEK) has been widely used in fields of electronic devices, biomedical stands, and aerospace applications, because of the excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, and chemical resistance. Herein, zwitterionic groups were grafted onto the PAEK main chains to fabricate shape memory zwitterionic PAEK (ZPAEK) material. These prepared ZPAEK exhibited the great thermal stability and mechanical properties, in addition to the great heat-triggered shape memory effect (SME).…”
