Bond Strength of Adhesive Systems to Er,Cr:YSGG Laser-Irradiated Dentin

Abstract: The self-etching primer seemed to be less affected by dentin irradiation with Er,Cr:YSGG laser. The additional etching and NaOCl solution did not overcome the effects of laser irradiation on dentin.

“…One unfavorable feature of the dental hard tissue lasers is the potential for thermo‐mechanical damage to the surface and subsurface of dental hard tissue dentin during laser irradiation (Ayar, ). In previous studies, it was reported that Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation yielded significantly lower dentin bond strength when compared to conventional means, even though the laser was used according to the parameters suggested by the manufacturers (Adebayo et al, ; Cardoso et al, ; Carvalho et al, ). However, it was reported that erbium laser irradiation might reduce nano‐hardness of dentin (Aizawa et al, ).…”

“…For an Er,Cr:YSGG laser, reduced bond strength was reported by Carvalho et al. . For further details, the reader is referred to well‐written reviews and studies in laser journals or journals for operative dentistry. It can be concluded that dentin treatment by endodontic irrigation has a major impact on the adhesion and bond strength of obturation materials and adhesively inserted posts.…”

“…Irradiation with a 980-nm diode laser at different powers increased the bond strength of AH Plus but not of Epiphany to root dentin (71). For an Er,Cr:YSGG laser, reduced bond strength was reported by Carvalho et al (173). For further details, the reader is referred to well-written reviews and studies in laser journals or journals for operative dentistry.…”

“…This increase has been attributed to the adherence of calcium ions to the hard tissue of teeth for the agent used. Some studies have reported that self-etch adhesive system produced better bonding strength to laser-irradiated dentin [15, 16]. …”
