“…Most participants were certain about encountering patients with BDD during last year, which is similar to what was reported in Bouman et al's study, where (62%) of participants encountered BDD patients (Bouman, Mulkens & Van der Lei, 2017). Szepietowski et al (2008) study on polish dermatologists found that (64%) of participants encountered patients with BDD during their years of service. The current study has also shown that half of all the physicians who were completely familiar with the diagnostic criteria of BDD were certain they encountered BDD patients within the last year.…”

Bouman, Mulkens & Van der Lei (2017) conducted a study on Dutch cosmetic professionals to assess the awareness of BDD.…”

“…Of concern is that the dermatologists in this study commonly did not ask for a psychiatric opinion (40.7% always, 28.8% often) and rarely attempted medication treatment on their own (15.3%) [25]. If these fi ndings extrapolate to dermatologists in other regions, additional education regarding recognition of BDD and appropriate treatment seems warranted.…”
