“…Therefore, understanding the stress‐induced lipid biosynthetic pathways is pivotal for the improvement in the production of both oil and astaxanthin in H. pluvialis . DGAT catalyzes the terminal step in acyl‐CoA‐dependent TAG production, and the expression of four DGAT2 isoforms was found to be upregulated in H. pluvialis under stress conditions (Ma et al, , b), which suggests their possible involvement in stress‐induced TAG accumulation. In the current study, we aim to identify the DGAT2 cDNA from the green algae H. pluvialis and functionally characterize the encoded enzymes using a yeast system.…”

“…In H. pluvialis , the fatty acid composition of total lipids and TAG was changed when the algae cells were subjected to light stress, in which 16:0, 18:1, and 18:2 increased with the concomitant decreases in 18:3 (Bilbao et al, ; Chen et al, ). Considering the upregulation of all four HpDGAT2 transcripts under light stress (Ma et al, , b), it is possible that different HpDGAT2 isoforms may display different substrate preferences and thus contribute to altered algal fatty acid composition. Indeed, C. reinhardtii DGAT2 have been demonstrated to contribute to the synthesis of diverse TAG species in algal cells by displaying distinct specificities toward acyl‐CoA and DAG (Liu et al, ).…”

“…The light quality was also shown to impact biomass productivity and astaxanthin accumulation. For example, it was reported that red light from Light Emitting Diodes (LED) increased the cell growth of H. pluvialis, while blue light enhanced astaxanthin biosynthesis [210].…”

“…reported that green light resulted in high growth rate of algae while the synthesis of phycocyanin and phycoerythrin can be stimulated by blue light . Additionally, in the cells of Haematococcus pluvialis , blue light promoted the accumulation of astaxanthin, a value‐added antioxidant for human diet . (v) Genetic modification technology is widely applied to enhance the synthesis of certain compositions, particularly protein and lipid, in microalgae .…”
